The Ottawa Hospital is thrilled to be recognized as one of the world’s best smart hospitals in 2021 by Newsweek. The only hospital from Ottawa and Eastern Ontario to be included this year, The Ottawa Hospital is ranked 75th in the world, and one of the top 3 smart hospitals in Canada.

The list of 250 hospitals is developed by Newsweek, partnered with data form Statista. These hospitals “…lead in their use of AI, robotic surgery, digital imaging, telemedicine, smart buildings, information technology infrastructure and EHRs. The hospitals on this list are the ones to watch.”

For The Ottawa Hospital, being a world-ranked smart hospital all comes back to constantly improving patient care.

“Over the past few years, our team has made big strides forward in embracing a culture of innovation and technological improvement because we know it helps us provide better patient care and a better patient experience,”  said Cameron Love, President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital.

“We’re very proud to be recognized for this work and we look forward to continuing to create and seek out new technologies and treatments for our patients.”

In 2019, the hospital implemented Epic, a best-in-class digital health system. The move to Epic has ushered patient-centered care into the digital age in Ottawa and has provided TOH with access to a wealth of data to drive improvements and innovation, while ensuring patient privacy.

Thanks to brilliant minds, pioneering treatments, cutting-edge technology and state-of-the-art facilities, The Ottawa Hospital is internationally known for changing the way medicine is practiced around the world. Through innovation and research, our doctors, researchers, staff and volunteers are defining new standards in patient care by discovering better ways to diagnose and treat patients.

Technology- and innovation-driven improvement will continue to guide the hospital’s development as planning moves forward on its new campus, where smart technology will be integrated into the design right from the day it opens.
